Ever wondered how it feels to be in a Dakar truck?

I surely have, and I’m a few days away from finding out!

Nest Tuesday I will be meeting Gerard de Rooy, two times Dakar rally winner, and son of Dakar legend Jan de Rooy. And he is bringing his rally truck to give rides, so I hope they have a nice track.

Actually I need to thank my dad for this, since a company he often orders industrial sensors from also supports Team de Rooy, and does this event to bind with their customers. He was invited for the event, but he couldn’t make it due to his schedule, however he arranged for me to go in his place, which is amazing, since I’ve always been a big Dakar fan.

I’ll try to take some pictures, and maybe I’ll shoot a video from the ride, though I don’t know if it will be doable, that depends on the bumpiness of the track.

Well it seats three, so it’s on par with a McLaren F1 on that, but a McLaren F1 doesn’t have space to take home some furniture, the Truck does. And they get to 100kmh/60mph faster than most hypercar drivers need. A Dakar truck builder in a town near me wants to race the Cobra of my uncle, since he is 100% sure his truck can beat the Cobra to 60, and the cobra should do that in around 5 seconds I guess.

Loon op Zand, there is apparently some offroad track there, though it does looks a bit small on google maps, especially for such a big truck. But being in one is epic anyway.

Well, Gerard de Rooy broke his back while being strapped in, twice even! I’ll try to do videos, though I think it’s gonna be quite a hassle to keep my phone steady, I think I’m not even going to try with my DSLR.

Vanaf 13:30 tot 17:30 geloof ik, maar ik weet niet precies wanneer hij gaat rijden, want er zitten ook nog wat presentaties over producten omheen dacht ik.
